John Conteh MBE

Patron
We are delighted and honoured to have former Champion boxer John Conteh MBE as our patron. John is known and respected for his charity work and was awarded an MBE in 2017 for his services to boxing.

He held multiple light-heavyweight championships including the WBC (World title) from 1974 to 1978; and the European, British, and Commonwealth titles between 1973 and 1974.

Imran Khalil

Founder, Director
Imran is passionate about boxing but also about helping people achieve their best and to realise their potential. He has an in-depth understanding of the barriers faced by people when trying to find work.

With a 20 year career in employability, Imran also has experience of running boxing based classes in a fitness based setting.  He is a long standing member of Islington Boxing Club and works with former ex-boxers and boxing gyms across London.

Bart Bartholomew

Development Manager
Bart has a background in Commissioning, Service Design, and Safeguarding, with experience in central, regional and local government. He is supporting the development of The Fighting Chance programmes with a focus on expanding the reach and impact of the business.

Bart believes the power of sport can help people enjoy a better life, and transform the lives of those less fortunate or with complex needs. Bart is a keen, but slow, cyclist.

Meet the Coaches

 

Barrington Shaheed Sambrano

Boxing Coach
Barrington Shaheed Sambrano is a level 2 England Boxing Coach. Barrington began boxing at age 14 in 1996 and has trained with George Burton since 2009. He also coaches at Imperial College assisting the Head Coach.

Barrington was instrumental in delivering outdoor boxing sessions for our veteran programmes during the summer.

George Burton

Advanced England Boxing Coach & Fitness Instructor
George Burton is an Advanced England Boxing Coach and a qualified fitness instructor. Involved in boxing since 1947, he won the 3 Nations Youth ABA Championship in 1953.

He’s coached since 1962 and in 1985 qualified as an Advanced England Coach. George has a wealth of experience having coached and assessed boxing coaches for 30 years, both in the UK and abroad. He was Head Coach at the Hurlingham Boxing Club, Sands End & currently operates as Head Coach at Imperial College.

sunni torgman

Boxing Coach, Personal Trainer, Hybrid Athlete
Sunni is originally from Australia based in London since 2015. Studying sport science Sunni also works a coach & personal trainer, is a Level 2 England Boxing Coach and hybrid athlete – competing as a strongwoman and boxer.

Boxing achievements:
National title in 2019
Gold medal at Haringey Boxing Cup
Won 2 gold medals at Golden Girls boxing cup in Sweden. 

Sunni also loves hummus and swearing.

 

Amy hodgkin

Boxing Coach
Amy is a talented amateur boxer and a PhD student at Imperial College. Having first tried boxing for improving her fitness Amy immediately fell in love with the sport and hasn’t looked back since. 

Amy was crowned British University Champion in 2020 and has hopes of becoming a national champ in future.

Jon Levy

Boxing Coach and personal trainer
Jon got involved with Boxing at a young age and has been hooked ever since.
He now Coaches people in the heart of London City and has been training people for the last 5 years.

Zowie Campbell

Senior Boxing Coach
Zowie boxed as a junior for Islington Boxing Club and went on to box as a Senior at Repton Boxing Club.He began his coaching career at Islington Boxing Club in 2015.

Olusegun ‘The Gun’ Ajose

Boxing Coach & pro-boxer
Former Olympian, Nigerian, British, African and Commonwealth Champion. Professional with 32 wins to his name. Ajose has boxed and coached in gyms all around the world at the very highest level.

Larry ‘The Natural’ Ekundayo

Boxing Coach & pro-boxer
Larry has a bag of tricks learned from his Pro Career to pass on to people he coaches. Champion of Africa, ranked number 30 in the World, number 11 in Europe. Winner of Sky TV’s Prizefighter tournament Undefeated record.

Paul Whelan

Board Member
After an early (and short) career treading the boards, Paul moved into the world of research and insights. He has spent over 25 years working with global blue-chip organisations helping brands and products unlock commercial opportunities and direction. An ardent film fan, he is faintly embarrassed that he has seen Rocky II more times than Raging Bull.

 

Catherine Muller

Board Member

After a lengthy career working as self employed, ranging from running art galleries to supporting an Elvis impersonator, Catherinesettled on working as a business adviser. For 20 years she worked within Jobcentreplus and the prison service advising the long term unemployed and discharged prisoners to set themselves up as self employed. She combines Business Plan writing, Tax advice and Benefit Advice enabling business ideas to sustain and grow.

Juha Williams

Board Member
Senior telecoms and IT professional for over 35 years. Believes strongly in the social value of sport and is keen to support the further development of The Fighting Chance.
